Duties:
Participate as a collaborative, productive and effective member of an interdisciplinary team in:
- Assess and triage for potential clients of the Substance use and Concurrent Disorder’s Program.
- The delivery of evidence-based addiction counseling services in both individual and group formats to a population with substance use and concurrent disorders.
- Communicating with other members of the team and community partners concerning patient status and progress including intake, unit and team conferences and care reviews.
- The ongoing care of patients admitted to the program including assisting with ward/unit/service routines.
- Maintaining clinical and other documentation which supports the care process.
- The collection of clinical and administrative data as required.
- Actively engage in ongoing quality improvement, evaluation and research activities as required.
- Participate in educational activities targeted to other health professionals in other Royal Programs and to members of our community partners and referral agencies.
- Participate in teaching and education of students from health related disciplines.
- Participate in internal and external committees as assigned.
- Maintain knowledge and skill in addiction counseling and concurrent disorders.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.

Qualifications:
- College diploma in Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders or relevant area of health study is required.
- Formal substance use and concurrent disorder education/training and experience.
- Current certification (or working towards) with a recognized Addiction Certification body.
- Proven superior interpersonal, group and assertive communication skills.
- Mandatory experience and knowledge with opioid addictions in an outpatient clinic
- Proven ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Sound clinical judgment, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Excellent organizational ability and goal setting skills.
- Formal training and experience in group dynamics and therapeutic groups.
- Proven ability to present curriculum based material in a group setting.
- Willingness to work variable hours, evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles and practices.
- Knowledge of community resources including resources for those with concurrent disorders, support and housing, etc.
- Experience in community consultation and community education is an asset.
- Knowledge of applicable legislated acts.
- Ability to work independently as well as in partnership with colleagues.
- Able to promote collegial and team relationships.
- Must complete RAI-MH, Catalyst, DATIS, training upon hire. Input into the RAI-MH system is required on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain work load measurement and data collection (i.e. RAI-MH) as required and input into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading and writing. Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
- Formal substance use and concurrent disorder education/training and experience.
