Job Description
|
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, the Corporate Accountant will be responsible for providing accurate and timely accounting and reporting, while ensuring that the company’s policies are being followed. The ideal candidate will be proactive, self-motivated and possess a high attention to detail while still being able to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This position requires a team player who will be able to support their team towards the overall successful achievement of team goals.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.
Accountabilities
Account Reconciliations
- Gather and review data in relation to the preparation of account reconciliations, including payroll and intercompany transactions
- Prepare reconciliations and resolve unsupported variance in a timely manner
- Prepare entries related to reconciliations, write offs and adjustments
- Prepare analysis on movements in the balance sheet accounts
- Liaise across the business to ensure consistency use of GL accounts
Period End Close & Reporting
- Execute period end closing activities and complete month-end close checklists
- Perform analysis and commentary on corporate results, against budget and forecast
- Generate necessary reports to facilitate period end close
- Prepare the monthly management reports and packages
- Ensure the consistency of financial processes and procedures, and continuously optimize to gain efficiency
Leadership
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and other finance team members
- Leverage financial, business, and accounting knowledge to drive process improvements and create efficiencies
ERP Transition
- Validate and monitor chart of accounts mapping and processes from existing system to the new ERP
- Establish documentation on various accounting processes in the new ERP environment
- Collaborate with the ERP and Payroll teams to resolve any ongoing mapping issues
Other
- Manage internal and external auditors requests where required and as directed
- Support organization changes in an effective and efficient manner
- Manage special projects, ad-hoc analysis and prepare reports as required
- Complete all other tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration or Accounting; Enrolled in or completed the CPA program
- 3+ years of related work experience and good understanding of financial statements
- Experience with large scale enterprise reporting systems, Workday or another cloud-based ERP knowledge would be an asset
- Advanced excel skills for working with large volumes of data
- Strong analytical, comprehension and problem-solving skills
- Experience with preparation of financial statement and account reconciliation
- Solid analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Effective problem solving, critical thinking and influential skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to build relationships across the organization
- Result and task oriented to meet required timelines with quality results
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments and demonstrate agility during times of change
- Desire to learn more and demonstrate willingness to support the team on a daily basis
