- Summary of Job:
- The Plumber position is required to work under the direction of the Operations and Facilities Supervisor in the Maintenance Department at all Brockville General Hospital sites. The Plumber participates as a member of the Maintenance department team in the repair, renovation and servicing of plumbing and heating systems for the physical plants. The Plumber performs skilled plumbing and related duties that require specialized training and trade certification.
Participates in hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
Education & Experience
- Government of Ontario Journeyman Plumbing Certificate
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the Building Code as related to plumbing and heating systems and related legislation
- HVAC and refrigeration experience
- Welding experience (pressure & fabrication)
- Previous institutional experience
- Several years of practical experience in steam, building heating and plumbing system
- Three years of practical general building maintenance experience
Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of a trade team and the demonstrated ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with staff, management, patients and the general public
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and technical specifications
- Must have good communication skills and demonstrated arithmetic proficiency to calculate material requirements and estimate costs
- Must be self-starter, flexible, dependable and conscientious
- Able to adapt to changing priorities and work with minimal supervision
- Repair, servicing and renovation of the hospital physical plant plumbing and heating systems
- Preparing material take-offs and cost estimates for proposed work
- Maintaining inventory of hardware, equipment, supplies and associated materials
- Performs duties related to ongoing preventative maintenance for plumbing and heating systems
- Ensuring work area is secure and safety precautions are followed
- Coordinates with and assists other tradesmen in major projects or repairs as required and assigned
- General maintenance duties in the department as required and assigned
