Duties:
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will work actively and collaboratively in organizing and delivering care to clients in a mental health setting. As a Resource Team Registered Nurse, you must be able to work in all nursing units of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre where you will:
- Provide person centered nursing care consistent with Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and patient treatment/rehabilitation needs and goals. Assist in assessment of patients’ needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of a plan of care for assigned patients in collaboration and consultation with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Establish and promote effective therapeutic relationships with patients and their families.
- Promote a supportive working relationship and effective communication with the interdisciplinary team.
- Accountable to meet College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards and policies and procedures of the Royal.
- Commit to ongoing professional development
- Monitor and document patient response to therapeutic interventions.
- Safe preparation and administration of medication as per policy and standards. Apply the Mental Health Act and all other legislation related to the practice of mental health nursing
- Must be able to work in all units in the hospital and long-term care
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti-Racism, Discrimination and Harassment-Free Workplace Policy.
- Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
- BScN is preferred.
- CPMHN(c) an asset.
- Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in mental health nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
- Able to meet the Standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Ability to work on all units of the ROMHC.
- Completion of CPI or equivalent.
- CPR certification within last 12 months.
- WHMIS update in preceding 12 months.
- Fire update in preceding 12 months.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Experience with electronic health records an asset
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
