Duties:
Under the direction of the Manager, Patient Care Services, you will work as a member the multidisciplinary Recovery Team, providing services to people with complex mental illness on an in-patient setting.
- Works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team using best practice and innovative approaches to provide the best possible client- oriented rehabilitation and treatment services.
- Promotes a healthy lifestyle through direct assistance, health teaching and side by side assistance with activities of daily living, social relations ships, transportation and employment.
- In collaboration with the Recovery Team, and the client develop recovery focused rehabilitation plans
- Identifies patient needs and responds to them appropriately and promptly.
- Monitors and documents patient response to therapeutic intervention and reports unexpected outcomes to the RN.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse to effectively manage rapidly changing situations.
- Demonstrates an awareness of and complies with, the vision and value statements of the ROHCG, relevant policies, procedures, responsibilities and routines and other relevant information.
- Promotes a Recovery focused environment and effective communication of the interdisciplinary team.
- Knowledge and ability to facilitate therapeutic groups.
- Establishes and promotes effective therapeutic relationships between staff members, patients and their families.
- Accountable to meet College of Nurses of Ontario Standards for RPN’s.
- Engages in enhancing knowledge through ongoing learning, education and reflective practice.
- Administers medications and performs treatments within the RPN’s full scope of practice according to applicable regulations and the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
- Other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Heart saver CPR recertification within the last 12 months (BCLS certification on initial hire.)
- CPI mandatory and ASIST Training preferred. Current WHMIS, fire training and All Code training required.
- Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Previous nursing experience working in psychiatric/mental health specialization.
- Experience facilitating groups.
- Knowledge of Illness Management Recovery (IMR) principles is an asset.
- Demonstrated computer skills.
- Current knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques for residents.
- Training related to mental illness and/or cognitive impairment or related areas.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player.
- Familiar with Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery techniques.
- Compassion/respect for persons with severe mental illness and their experience.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
