Summary
of
responsibilities
The
Addiction
and
Mental
Health
Therapist
is
responsible
for
providing
comprehensive
urgent/emergent
mental
health
services
to
clients,
including
psychosocial
assessment,
crisis
intervention
and
urgent
follow-up,
as
well
as
consultation
and
education
to
other
staff,
professionals
and
community
agencies.
This
is
specialized
mental
health
practice.
Employees
provide
rapid,
accurate
and
effective
assessment,
interventions,
recommendations
regarding
disposition,
referral
to
community
resources,
and
supportive
consultation
to
community
agencies,
police
departments
and
families.
Work
is
performed
with
considerable
independent
judgement
within
approved
policies
and
procedures
as
well
as
embody
a
culture
of
caregiver
inclusion
in
the
patient’s
plan
of
care.
Requirements
of
the
job
•
Four
(4)
year
university
degree
in
social
sciences
•
Registered
with
a
relevant
Ontario
College
whose
members
may
practice
psychotherapy
•
Thorough
knowledge
of
Mental
Health
Crisis
Team
functions
•
Minimum
three
(2)
years
working
experience
in
the
community
delivering
crisis
interventions
with
adults,
youth
and
families
experiencing
addiction
and
mental
health
concerns
•
Strong
assessment,
interviewing
and
therapeutic
skills
•
Current
certification
in
Non-Violent
Crisis
Intervention.
•
ASSIST
training
and
Specialized
Suicide
Intervention
Training
(Adult
and
Youth)
•
Ability
to
be
organized
and
autonomous,
and
have
good
team-work
capabilities
•
Excellent
interpersonal
and
communication
skills
•
Computer
literacy,
and
knowledge
in
using
CERNER
•
Valid
driver’s
license
in
good
standing
•
Demonstrated
regular,
punctual
attendance
•
Demonstrated
commitment
to
patient
safety
•Willing
to
work
with
a
variety
of
community
partners,
including
police
services
•Functional
proficiency
in
English/and
French,
oral
and
written
•
CPR
