Summary of responsibilities

Reporting to the Program Manager/Supervisor, the Psychologist works collaboratively with individuals who are experiencing the most severe, complex, rare, or chronic/persistent diagnosable addiction, mental health and concurrent disorder issues that significantly impair functioning in most areas such as home, school/work, and in the community. The Psychologist conducts psychological assessments as requested for clients registered in the program. Assessments focus on establishing diagnosis and providing feedback to clients, staff and outside agencies as appropriate.

Requirements of the job

• Ph.D. in Psychology with a specialization in Child Psychology, as well as training and experience in clinical psychology
• Registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
• Minimum 6 months’ experience in an interdisciplinary team within a mental health and concurrent disorder setting
•Demonstrated experience and practice in administering and interpretation of psychological testing for children and youth
•Demonstrated clinical practice in one or more of the various treatment modalities specific to psychotherapy i.e. cognitive & behavioural, experiential & humanistic, psychodynamic, somatic & system & collaborative
• A demonstrated ability to work with complex patients
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of addiction/mental health/concurrent disorder illnesses & intervention approaches
• Experience completing client assessments (including diagnosis) and psychotherapy
• Ability to be self-directed and skilled in establishing therapeutic relationships
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, staff and community agency personnel
• Ability to educate and provide consultation to clients, families and community agency personnel
• Strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners
• Knowledge of types of relevant community resources
• Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and professional practice guidelines for the treatment of various disorders
• Knowledge of relevant legislation such as Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information, etc.
• Ability to communicate effectively with individual, groups, and other professionals within an interdisciplinary environment in a diverse community
• Ability to develop, co-ordinate and deliver in-services, presentations, psycho-educational and support groups
• Ability to be organized, conscientious and thorough with information gathering, and in documentation practices
• Computer literacy (MS Office – Word, Outlook, Excel)
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety

Assets:
• Functional proficiency in both official languages (oral and written in English, oral in French – and testing completed)
