Summary of responsibilities
The Cornwall Community Hospital is looking for an innovative and collaborative leader who is able to engage others. Reporting to the Vice-President, Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer, the Director, Perioperative Services and Inpatient Surgery will provide leadership across the hospital’s Inpatient Surgery department, Sterile Processing department, and Perioperative Services department, including the Pre-Admission Clinic, Day Surgery, Operating Rooms, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Endoscopy, and Surgical Clinics.
The Director is responsible for the human and financial resources, while meeting departmental and corporate priorities. The Director will be dedicated to providing a multidisciplinary approach to care with consolidated services and highly skilled, caring staff. Utilizing a strong support structure, which includes two managers and a supervisor, the Director oversees clinical direction, daily operations, and resources to ensure the delivery of exceptional care and a high-level of staff engagement and satisfaction aligned with the Professional Practice Model at CCH.
Requirements of the job
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Masters Preferred
• Current and unrestricted registration with College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum of 5 years relevant clinical management experience of interprofessional healthcare teams
• Strong advocate for patient centred care
• Knowledge of the Operating Room Association of Canada (ORNAC) and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards and recommended practices
• Knowledge of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) medical device reprocessing and infection control standards
• Working knowledge of Quality Based Procedures and best practice guidelines relevant to surgery and Required Organizational Practices as defined by Accreditation Canada
• Knowledge and experience with healthcare systems, including applicable provincial legislation and related regulations, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Flexibility and capacity to manage numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet demands and expectations
• Demonstrated ability to engage staff in identifying and implementing process improvements that lead to exceptional care and a strong team
• Enthusiasm for researching and implementing quality practices to ensure the best possible experience of patients
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement
• Extensive knowledge of the diverse patient populations that experience the various forms of treatment and care at the Cornwall Community Hospital
• Ability to critically appraise safety, quality improvement, ethical and clinical issues
• Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Demonstrated ability to work diplomatically and persuasively to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various internal, and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet demands and expectations
• Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem solve and make recommendations for change and implement and evaluate
• Ability to lead organizational change efforts
• Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize own work and that of others
• Knowledge of collective agreements and experience working in a unionized environment
