Position Summary:
Reporting to the Program Manager, and under the supervision of ACT team leader, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of a full range of client centered clinical services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, responding to telephone crisis calls and referrals, providing clinical assessments including physical health, medication and side effects, allergies and interactions, risk assessments, providing consultation and collaboration, care coordination, patient and family education, provision of patient centred advocacy, referral and/or facilitating care and discharge planning and liaise with community partners. Working as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of quality nursing care to a patient or group of patients. The provision of such nursing care is expected to be within the Standards of Nursing Practice (CNO) and the standards of the hospital and particular program.
The Registered Nurse is expected to maintain competence and skills through on-going participation in continuing education and will be able to demonstrate proof of such participation. The Registered Nurse actively participates in CNO Quality Assurance Program.
Participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centred environment
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- BScN is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Post diploma Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing an asset
- Valid Class G Ontario driver’s license , current driver’s abstract and proof of current vehicle insurance required
- Minimum of 3 years of previous mental health providing direct clinical service within inpatient and/or community mental health setting, preferably with an ACT team
- Partner with police in completing mobile crisis intervention
- Current BCLS and CPR certification, First Aid, maintained throughout employment period
- Demonstrated competency to administer naloxone in emergent situations
- Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training required
- Completion of Suicide Intervention Training and Crisis Management is considered an asset
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to conduct bio-psycho-social assessments; risk assessments, suicide prevention, advocacy and referral required
- Demonstrated crisis intervention skills for both telephone and person-to-person
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in providing treatment methods such as individual, group and family therapy, to persons with an acute and/or severe mental illness.
- Significant clinical experience in the assessment and treatment (individual and group) of: Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar and Related Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders
- Experience providing a range of evidence based therapy modalities, including Cognitive behavioural therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical behavioural therapy, trauma-informed therapy, motivational interviewing and crisis intervention/management.
- Knowledge of the ACTT model of service and best practices in Mental Health
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including, but not limited to, The Mental Health Act, The Regulated Health Professionals Act, The Substitute Decisions Act, The Health Care Consent Act, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.
- Knowledge of psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment methods.
- In-depth knowledge of community resources, programs and agencies available to clients and families.
- Experience working in a computerized environment, sound knowledge and understanding of computer-based operations
- Extensive driving required (South Lanark & Leeds Grenville Counties) and comfortable in driving alone to visit clients in their homes
- Participates in research and continuous quality improvement
- Demonstrated sensitivity and awareness of the stigma frequently experienced by persons carrying a psychiatric diagnosis
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering culturally diverse environment and 2SLGBTQ sensitive care environment
- Excellent oral and written communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
- Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment,
- Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
- Ability to work independently and as a member of interprofessional team and evenings, weekends and on call
- Excellent attendance and availability required.
