- Ensures the delivery of professional nursing care by utilizing evidence based nursing practice and by:
- Establishing, providing, and evaluating clinical nursing care to patients and family
- Demonstrating critical thinking in the nursing process while collecting and interpreting data, planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care
- Practising to the full scope of practice of the Registered Nurse within own level of competence
- Has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidence-based nursing practice that complies with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Nursing Practice, QCH Policies and Procedures as well as the standards of care appropriate to his/her area of clinical practice.

- Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- RN Diploma
- Current BCLS
- 2 years’ recent experience in acute care working with complex older adults experiencing medical and/or surgical problems with comorbid mental health problems, including Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia
- Demonstrated experience providing specialized assessment of delirium, dementia and mental health with knowledge of multiple best practices in these areas
- Knowledge of non-pharmacological strategies to manage Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia
- Knowledge of the regional health care system in the area of geriatrics and mental health
- Ability to provide written consultation and plan of care for identified behavioural concerns
- Experience with external collaboration with identified community partners such as retirement homes, primary care, LHIN, specialized geriatric services or community support programs
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to understand, interpret and carry out verbal and written instructions in the English language
- Ability to work effectively within the nursing and inter-professional team
- Demonstrated computer competency
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
- P.I.E.C.E.S certificate
- Completion of Dementiability Course
- Gentle Persuasive Approaches certificate
- CNA Certification in Geriatrics or Mental Health Nursing
- Experience with clinical documentation in an Electronic Health Record
- Membership in RNAO
- Experience as preceptor/mentor
