Summary of responsibilities

The Cornwall Community Hospital is excited to participate in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) Program! The Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program is designed to support Registered Nurses who are within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) by providing them with a full-time employment opportunity.
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the role of Registered Nurse (RN) at CCH is to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered, ethical, and evidenced-based nursing care. The overall function of the RN is to assist our patients and community to manage clinical conditions and transitions and maximize their self-care abilities. The RN also acts as a resource for members of the care team.

The successful New Graduate Initiative candidate will experience a wealth of experience at the Cornwall Community Hospital. With our diverse population, healthcare providers will work in environments with enhanced technological capabilities. Medicine and Surgery provide new nurses with a basic foundation in which to build their careers. Both areas treat many surgical and medical conditions for differing age groups. Nurses coming to these areas will start with a corporate hospital orientation from which they will learn about strategic directions, the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Emergency preparedness is also provided in this session. Nurses will also attend 1.5 days of PowerChart Training as well as 4 days of Nursing Orientation that is comprised of skill building, technological devices, policies, protocols, and an overview of supports and resources available to nurses. These intensive training sessions are offered by trained Clinical Resource Nurses and experts in the field within the organization. Specific Unit orientation is also provided to new nurses. Nurses buddy alongside a seasoned, experienced nurse to follow and practice with a mentoring lead. As a new grad initiative or “Portal” nurse, the new recruit is mentored for a period of time in a specific location which allows for an enhanced learning opportunity as a supernumerary adjunct within the clinical setting.

Requirements of the job

Participation in the NGG program is open to nurses within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Canadian educated nurses who:

• Graduated with a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a diploma from a practical nursing program in Canada;
• Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO; and
• Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice period.

• Completed their nursing education outside of Canada;
• Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO; and
• Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice period.
