Duties:
- Provide individual occupational therapy assessment and treatment to referred adult clients in the Secure Treatment Unit,
- Plan, facilitate and assist in the coordination of treatment groups in the inpatient units
- Contribute to interdisciplinary treatment planning.
- Participate in the integrated education and vocational assessment process and rehabilitation planning and care delivery as necessary.
- Attend clinical and program meetings as required.
- Liaise with appropriate community agencies as required.
- Provide student supervision.
- Contribute to furthering of the goals of the Occupational Therapy profession including attending monthly meetings.
- Enter workload measurement data according to hospital policies.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, to program and to Ontario College of Occupational Therapy standards of practice.
- Willingness to work variable hours, evenings and weekends.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the ROHCG.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal Harassment Free policy.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Occupational therapy experience, preferably with adults with serious mental illness.
- Experience working with adult psychiatric population is preferred.
- Experience with developing and leading psycho-educational and therapeutic groups is essential.
- Experience with recovery based programs for the seriously mentally ill is essential.
- Member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- Membership in CAOT and/or OSOT preferred.
- Proof of malpractice insurance as required by COTO is required.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational ability, critical thinking and goal setting skills.
- Group leadership and facilitation experience and skills.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Knowledge of applicable legislated acts (i.e. MHA, The Health Care Consent Act).
- Ability to work independently and sound clinical judgment.
- Experience in community consultation is an asset.
- Satisfactory Police Records Check, for vulnerable sector.
- Ability to work in a team; establish and maintain good working relations.
- Valid drivers’ license and access to personal vehicle for work purposes.
- English level A- in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing is mandatory. Bilingual (French/English) level A- is considered an asset.
